A GATHERING OF FAMOUS AND INFAMOUS KITE ENTHUSIASTS, WHO MEET IN THE WOODS, THE SECOND WEEKEND OF MARCH, TO IMMERSE THEMSELVES IN THE ULTIMATE KITE EXPERIENCE, IN PREPARATION FOR THE FIRST WARM WINDS OF SPRING.
21TH ANNIVERSARY
From its humble beginnings in 1989, when 12 or so kite enthusiasts gathered together, in one room, to share their kitemaking interests and skills, the MIDWEST AREA KITEMAKERS. RETREAT (MAKR) has steadily grown to include over 75 participants from all across the Midwest and places beyond! Started under the auspices of the Chicagoland SkyLiners Kite Club, and traditionally held on the second weekend of March, MAKR will celebrate its 21st successful year when kitemakers converge on Taft Campus the weekend of March 13, 14, & 15, 2009.
.
Lorado Taft Field Campus is the outdoor education facility of Northern Illinois University. Originally established as an artists. retreat over 100 years ago, it consists of 140 wooded acres, sitting high atop a bluff overlooking the scenic Rock River and the nearby community of Oregon, Illinois . some 110 miles west of Chicago. The dorms, dining hall, and classrooms are all within easy walking distance of one another, with classrooms open 24 hours. The campus has numerous hiking trails for those in need of quiet contemplation or by-the-seat-of-your-pants kiting adventure! And while it is not easy to find a flying field amongst the
stately oaks, MAKR participants usually are so involved in learning and creating that they hardly notice! For more information about Taft Campus, visit: www.niu.edu/ltfc/
On behalf of all that are in attendance at MAKR 2009, our 21st Anniversary, we extend a big THANK YOU to you, our instructors! We acknowledge and very much appreciate all the efforts that have gone into preparing and bringing your workshops to us. It is because of your talents and willingness to share that we have all gathered here together. Thank you!
